I Hope You Dance.
Be the best version of yourself..
This is a very beautiful song by ‘Lee Ann Womack’ that I remember from a long time back. It is a very uplifting, life affirming song that immediately warms the heart. More importantly, it makes extremely important, spiritually nourishing points about our stay in this material world.
'I hope you dance' by Lee Ann Womack:
As the divine text of Bhagvad Gita reveals, our stay in a particular body is very short lived and is just a small chapter of our eternal existence. The goal of human life is to break free from the entanglement of material world and from the entrapment within different bodies. A spiritualist is someone who practices this knowledge and uses human life as a God-given resource to achieve this ultimate freedom. Although, spiritualists are well versed with this knowledge and always engaged in activities that lead them towards this destination. Yet, they also know the art of living a wholesome, fulfilling, joyful life with deep human connections whilst continually progressing towards their destination of eternal, spiritual existence.
JOYFUL:
DEVELOP DEEP HUMAN CONNECTIONS-
It is often a misconception in this world that- those on spiritual path are aloof, disconnected and morose; unable to enjoy the human experiences. This is far from truth as the truly devout soul with deep connection to the Lord is incredibly blissful, with an extremely deep sense of connection to people, situations and relationships around him.
Their experience of this world and its many circumstances is strongly heightened as they understand and see everything from an elevated plane of existence. This vantage point allows them to see everything and everyone in connection with the supreme lord. Thus, their sense of happiness tends to be of a deeper and more genuine nature.
ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE:
BEING GRATEFUL IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES-
They see every experience good, bad or ugly as a situation arranged by the Lord for our continuous progress towards Him. Therefore, spiritual knowledge teaches us to embrace each situation as his mercy and express gratitude in both favorable and unfavorable circumstances. In reality, no material situation is unfavorable as it is always an opportunity to learn, improve and take shelter of the Lord.
EMBRACE LIFE:
SEEING DIVINITY EVERYWHERE-
In Bhagvad Gita, Krishna urges Arjuna to perceive his presence and opulence in everything and everyone. One must preserve this sense of awe and wonder when we experience the beauty of mother nature, the qualities of wonderful people, the numerous talents and achievements of people around us. One should cultivate this habit of appreciation, wonder, reverence and thrill when experiencing the full spectrum of different colors of life. This also indicates innocence, simplicity and purity; qualities that are very pleasing to the Supreme.
SEIZE THE DAY (‘Carpe Diem’):
UTILISE EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE-
Those with admiration for Lord’s plans and appreciation for His arrangements - also see opportunity to serve and participate in every situation presented to them. They are always eager to contribute aggressively, serve and facilitate various tasks. They tend to not waste any precious time of this short human life and engage whole heartedly in every single experience presented to them.
Seize the Day: Make best use of this short human existence. The song urges one to ‘Be hungry for more knowledge, relationships, opportunities, services and thereby, make world a better place’.
Krishna is the greatest dancer:
WHEN WE DANCE TO HIS TUNES, IT IS ALWAYS A PERFECT DANCE.
This means to put our faith in the plans of Supreme who is our eternal friend, well-wisher and guide. He has the vision of past, present and future as well as He is free of errors. Thus, seeking his guidance from within and without will enable us to become the best version of ourselves and achieve the highest potential of this life. Although, one has so many doubts and skepticism towards spiritual paths, yet taking this leap of faith will land us into the lap of godhead and permit us to live a most wholesome life without any regrets.
Get out of comfort zone:
PUSH PAST THE LIMITS TO ACHIEVE SOMETHING MORE WONDERFUL THAN THE MUNDANE-
Timeless wisdom of Bhagvad Gita instructs one to be intelligent and realize the temporary nature of ordinary, material engagements. Although it may require more effort to develop taste for the divine, yet it is worth our while to develop this attraction and attachment which is everlasting and infinitely joyful. Getting out of comfort zone to engage with spiritual realm is the ‘The road less travelled’.
I HOPE YOU DANCE:
DANCE TO THE SONG OF THE LORD
This song speaks to our lower nature that is resentful, narrow-minded, devoid of faith and love, forgetful, joyless, ungrateful, unappreciative and limits the experience and potential of human life. The supreme lord sang a song for his devotees approximately 5000 years back. This divine song is called- Bhagvad Gita (Song of The Lord). It is read, sung, glorified and used by the advanced spiritualists till date to transform their lives. That song also urges us to purify that lower nature and achieve an unlimitedly clean, joyful, infinite, eternal consciousness that is our real form and nature.
I hope and pray that we learn to seize every day and every opportunity to dance for the pleasure of lord. Participate in the dance of life without any cares, serve aggressively, happily, lovingly and genuinely.
When Krishna plays his flute and makes you dance to his tunes— “I hope you dance”.

Love the content and the way it has been presented.. all the headings are very apt and impactful ! Very powerful meaning to the song and the line ‘ I hope you give faith a fighting chance’ is where a lot of us miss the train .. we are so whole heartedly wanting to be ‘scientific’ that we miss what is right in front of us staring us in the eye and ignore the obvious in the name of ‘science and advancement’. Are we truly that blind ?
